Brian Eno - Before And After Science

Before and After Science es uno de los más grandes álbumes de canciones de Brian Eno. Con guitarras funkies, capas de teclados y sintetizadores y la colaboración de músicos de la talla de Phil Collins, Robert Fripp, el dúo Cluster, Phil Manzanera, Fred Frith o Dave Mattacks, el bueno de Brian consiguió un disco influyente y vigente como pocos, que hoy se puede percibir en artistas que van desde exponentes de la música electrónica hasta Les Claypool o los Flaming Lips.

Las composiciones van desde instrumentales como Energy Fools the Magician, hasta la uptempo King's Lead Hat o la hermosa Here He Comes. Un aspecto destacable, y que no suele tenerse en cuenta en Eno, son las letras: cantadas con su voz agotada, se asemejan a relatos de ciencia ficción abundantes en descripciones oscuras y desoladoras, pero siempre con espacio para la belleza y la emoción, que de a ratos hacen acordar a los paisajes presentados por Andrei Tarkovsky en su película Stalker.

En el sentido de la belleza y la emoción sobresale una joya, empleada por Nanni Moretti para musicalizar dos escenas de su increíble película La Stanza del Figlio: By This River, co-escrita e interpretada por Achim Roedelius y Möbi Moebius (es decir, Cluster), es una de las canciones más sublimes de Eno, que adquiere una fuerza especial luego de ser apreciada en el contexto de la nombrada película y es de escucha obligada para aquellos que creen que la música electrónica no puede emocionar.*

David Bowie por Lou Reed

El aporte de David Bowie al rock & roll fue el ingenio y la sofisticación. Es inteligente, es un verdadero músico y realmente sabe cantar. Tiene un rango de acción muy amplio: Me gusta la voz de Ziggy Stardust, Cuando Quiere, tiene una voz romántica. Y tiene un sentido melódico que esta por encima que el de cualquier otro en el rock & roll. La mayoría de la gente no podría cantar algunas de sus melodías. El puede alcanzar una nota alta. Por ejemplo en "Satellite Of Love", de mi álbum Transformer: hay una parte, muy al final, donde sube la voz de una manera fabulosa.
Desde Little Richard en adelante, siempre hubo androginia en el rock, pero David le imprimió su pátina, por decir algo. pensó mucho sobre ese personaje Ziggy: había estudiado mimo y no lo hacía simplemente para reírse. Era muy conciente del arte teatral. hacía todo un espectáculo en base a ese personaje, y después lo abandonó. ¿Cuanto más inteligente se puede volver uno? ¿Te imaginas si tuviera que seguir haciendo a Ziggy? Quiero decir, si uno le prestara atención a lo que dicen los críticos y el publico, se lo pasaría tocando cuatro temas una y otra vez. David se propuso hacer otro personajes, como el delgado duque blanco. Y su abordaje de la música soul norteamericana, en álbumes como Young Americans, era increíblemente buena; el material original que escribió era genial.
No puedo elegir un disco suyo que sea mi favorito. depende de mi estado de animo -cualquiera de los discos dance; Ziggy Stardust; siempre me gustó "Bewlay Brothers", el tema sobre Hunky Dory-. Y los álbumes que hizo con Brian Eno, como Low y Heroes, son geniales. Siempre está cambiando, así que uno nunca se cansa de lo que hace. Y fue así desde que empezó hasta ahora: "The Loneliest Guy" en su último álbum, Reality, es un tema maravilloso. Otro más.
Seguimos siendo amigos después de todos estos años y es bastante sorprendente. Ocasionalmente vamos a una muestra de arte o a un museo juntos y siempre me gusta trabajar con él. Yo lo ví tocar aquí en Nueva York en su última gira y fue uno de los conciertos de rock más maravillosos que haya visto en mi vida. De gente blanca, por lo menos, de verdad.-

Easy Star All Stars . Dark Side Of The Dub

Pink Floyd, rey absoluto de la psicodelia, en 1973 parió de sus entrañas y mentes extraviadas por los ácidos y más drogas que la era psicodélica exploraba, El Disco de Rock más famoso de todos los tiempos llamado “The Dark Side of the Moon”. En el año 2006 el proyecto Easy Star All-Stars decide como reto hacer una versión dub de dicha producción sin imaginar la trascendencia que tendría tal hecho a nivel global. Pronto su ”Version” se volvió una pieza icónica en la escena reggae mundial. Easy Star All-Stars lograron trasladar el album completo al reggae: pasando por el drum ‘n bass, el reggae roots y el dub. ”Dub Side of the Moon” Fue un reto superado y desde las alturas donde se encontraban los Easy Star All-Stars buscaron un reto mayor; otra pieza seminal del siglo XX y lo encontraron con el “OK Computer” de Radiohead: “Radiodread”. Pero esta es otra historia…

David Bowie - Station To Station

Para mi la obra maestra de Bowie. Grabado en una epoca donde Bowie estaba en el pick de su adiccion a la cocaina y la heroina, contanto hace poco de que no se acuerda cuando grabo este album. Mesclando el soul, disco, melodias bailables, baladas y con ese toque especial que le da este musicaso. es uno de mis discos favoritos de Bowie, son 6 canciones, pero todas exelentes, de cada una de ellas se pueden hacer como 5 canciones mas. una gran obra maestra para que la disfruten.
